After growing up in Compton and Long Beach, California, and being a part of Snoop Dogg’s Youth Football League, it is only natural Vince Staples gained an interest in music and began to make his own. In 2015 he released his debut album ‘Summertime ‘06’ and it’s three singles "Señorita", "Get Paid" and "Norf Norf". The album received widespread praise, peaking at #3 on the US Top R&B/ Hip-Hop Albums chart.
Staples is known to be entirely “straight-edge”, having never tried alcohol or drugs in his life. He explains this as a result of his involvement with gangs in his childhood, but he now spends a significant amount of time speaking to the youth in his community about the dangers of being involved in such things. In 2017 he returned with his second album ‘Big Fish Theory’, yet again receiving high acclaim and praise, with some claiming it to be the best hip-hop album of 2017.
