About

The Playground Theatre has become one of London’s most imaginative theatres off the West End. Based in the West London postcode of W10, this former bus depot has quickly become one of the best places to enjoy cutting-edge drama, stand-up comedy and other performing arts.

True to its name, The Playground Theatre was set up as a creative space to help encourage innovation among emerging and established artists of all disciplines. Regularly receiving support from bodies such as the Arts Council and the Welcome Trust, this modest theatre is now a testing ground for bold and imaginative new shows. New shows that have featured here have been known to move on to the likes of the Young Vic, the Barbican and the West Yorkshire Playhouse among other established theatres.

The Playground Theatre is proudly multicultural as it looks to represents its diverse local community. The theatre welcomes artists from both the UK and further afield, and its programme ranges from international plays and classical music to dance and film. Foreign directors to have had shows presented here include Poland’s Henryk Baranowski, Lithuania’s Salius Varnus, and Hideki Noda, head of Japan's National Theatre. The Playground Theatre also attracts top drawer local talent, with James Acaster just one of the UK comedians to have performed here.

Those arriving at the Playground Theatre for shows will be pleased to learn that the theatre has its own cafe bar for showgoers to enjoy a drink before or after their show. The cafe is open seven days a week on show days, and stays open during the week when shows aren’t running.

A venue bursting with talent and imagination, you won't fail to find a show to get you thinking at the Playground Theatre. Browse all available tickets for shows at the Playground Theatre right here.
