About

Named after the Earl of Leicester, De Montfort Hall is one of the city’s largest and oldest entertainment sites. The indoor auditorium of De Montfort Hall welcomes many acts from the genres of drama, dance, comedy, music and more, while its outdoor amphitheatre is a great place to relish the arts under the summer sun.

De Montfort Hall dates back to the early 20th century, where construction was completed in 1913. It contains a flexible auditorium, with a seating capacity of up to 2200. It has many different possible layouts to suit its range of shows, including standing, dance floors, tiered seating and more. The outdoor amphitheatre has a larger capacity of up to 7000. Visitors to De Montfort Hall can also witness the only surviving organ of local organ manufacturers, Stephen Taylor and Son Ltd.

De Montfort Hall has such an elegant aura that it regularly attracts local classical groups, such as the Leicester Philharmonic Choir and the Leicester Symphony Orchestra. But the Hall is not confined to one type of audience, where many enjoy its range of festivals, including the annual Hindu festival of Navratri, the Summer Sundae festival and The Big Session Festival. It has also welcomed many high-profile artists such as Frank Sinatra, ACDC, The Beatles, Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones.

If you’re driving to the venue, you can park in De Montfort Hall’s own car park located adjacent. It lies next to Victoria Park and close to the O2 Academy, south east from Leicester city centre. The full address is Granville Road, Leicester, LE1 7RU. Visitors are able to book in advance for the show, starting from 2 hours before the show’s start time. There is also a nearby public pay and display car park, around 20 minutes’ walk from De Montfort Hall.

For those travelling by public transport, you can catch a bus from St Margaret’s Bus Station or Charles Street. Or arrive by train to Leicester Railway Station and walk 10 minutes to the venue.

Access Information

The dedicated car park offers free parking for blue badge holders, however these are limited. De Montfort Hall also features a Changing Places toilet and a 2 for 1 Carer Scheme as well as a Loop system, lift access to the first floor, and brochures in different accessible formats.
