About

Two of the finest venues in the UK, the Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall put Nottingham on the map for world-class West End musicals, opera, ballet and music. Each year, visitors can also enjoy a spectacular children’s pantomime, often featuring local or national famous faces. The theatre dates back to the 1865, built by the local Lambert brothers in an elegant and luxurious design. It was later reformed by the hand of notorious Edwardian theatre architect, Frank Matcham, who redesigned the auditorium and stage, alongside some of the facilities behind the stage. In 1978, the theatre once again underwent refurbishment and remodeling, sporting a stunning gold and green auditorium with top-class acoustics and striking new foyers. Nottingham’s leading entertainment venue has welcomed a wealth of productions in its long standing history. One of the most notable is Agatha Christie’s ‘The Mousetrap’, which starred a young Sir Richard Attenborough in its original cast. The play premiered in 1952 and went on to become a huge success in West End history. Christie famously refers to the Theatre Royal as her ‘lucky theatre’. Other celebrity appearances include comedian Joe Pasquale as ‘Smee’ and ‘Only Fools and Horses’ star John Challis as ‘Captain Hook’ in ‘Peter Pan’.
