Arts Council England describe it as the best attended regional producing theatre in the UK, attracting over 350,000 visitors annually. Events at Theatre Royal, Plymouth

Across three performance areas; The Lyric, The Drum and The Lab, the Theatre Royal hosts a whole range of different events. It’s offers the likes of musicals, ballet, opera, drama, and comedy, often welcoming reputable performing arts companies, such as the Birmingham Royal Ballet and Welsh National Opera, to its stages. In the past, top touring musicals such as Sunny Afternoon, The Buddy Holly Story, Sister Act, The Play That Goes Wrong and Beautiful: The Carole King Musical have all stopped there. The Theatre Royal not only receives some of best productions, but also creates new innovative plays.

Theatre Royal, Plymouth seating and capacity

The main auditorium is in The Lyric space, hosting a seating capacity of 1,320 theatre patrons. The Drum has a capacity of 200 and the smallest space, The Lab, holds up to 50. The Lyric consists of three seating areas, with the majority of seats enjoying an unrestricted view of the stage.

How to get to the venue and where to park at Theatre Royal, Plymouth

There are three car parks to choose from, including the Theatre Royal Plymouth car park located behind the theatre, the Civic Centre car park and Derry’s Cross car park. The Theatre Royal Plymouth and Civic Centre car park both have dedicated disabled parking spaces.

Alternatively, visitors can reach the venue by train or bus, followed by a 15 or 10 minute walk, respectively. There’s also a taxi drop-off point behind the theatre.

Access Information

There are various accessibility features at the Theatre Royal, including an infra-red system for use with headsets or a personal loop system. Visitors can also find accessible toilets on all floors, as well as lift access to each level. There’s also a designated access performance brochure online and large print/audio brochures available via signing up.
