The smaller sister venue to Baths Hall, the Plowright Theatre is a central entertainment venue in Scunthorpe. It provides musicals, tribute acts and opera shows, in addition to stand-up comedy, whereby Lee Evans celebrated the fastest sell-out performance at the Plowright in 2008.
The venue was originally named the Civic Theatre, but was later retitled after local leading actress and current president of her father’s Scunthorpe Little Theatre Club, Joan Plowright. It currently stages a range of shows, particularly from the likes of Scunthorpe Musical Theatre Society, Scunthorpe Gilbert and Sullivan Amateur Operatic Society, who all perform annually.
The Plowright and Baths Hall are both managed by venue management giants, SMG, who also own the likes of The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester and the York Barbican. Slightly more modest than its peers, the Plowright has a capacity of 354, which arguably adds to its charming appeal and intimate, friendly vibes.
