About

Shakespeare’s Globe at Bankside is one of London’s most famous theatres. A reconstruction of the 16th century Globe Theatre famous for its association with William Shakespeare, Shakespeare’s Globe proudly carries its namesake’s legacy today. The theatre welcomes thousands of visitors each day for its innovative productions of Shakespeare’s plays, guided tours and workshops. You can look for the best Shakespeare's Globe tickets here at TickX. Shakespeare’s Globe was the brainchild of actor and director Sam Wanamaker. A faithful reconstruction of the original Globe made entirely of English oak, it sits just 230 metres from the original theatre. It opened its doors in 1997 with a production of the play Henry V. It has presented plays every summer since, starring top actors and live period music to bring Shakespeare's famous works to life. The Globe’s main theatre only holds 1500 people, making every performance here an intimate one. The theatre proudly aims to mimic the experience of the original Globe, using its thrust stage to create a community feel. Shakespeare’s Globe initially used no microphones or spotlights to best recreate the conditions in which Shakespeare’s plays were originally performed. Today, the theatre takes an experimental approach to its source material, presenting landmark interpretations of Shakespeare’s classic plays. The Globe also contains a smaller, candle-lit space, the 340-seater Sam Wanamaker Playhouse. This replica Jacobean theatre hosts even cosier performances, placing the audience right in front of the actors. The nearby Sackler Studios houses the Globe’s educational workshops and rehearsals. It also presents the Globe's Read not Dead series, which interprets works by other playwrights from Shakespeare's time. There is no more authentic place to experience Shakespeare's plays in London than at Shakespeare’s Globe. Take a seat on one of its simple wooden benches, hire a cushion if you need to, and enjoy. You can look at all the upcoming listings and find the best tickets for Shakespeare’s Globe events here at TickX.
