A dynamic and diverse venue that holds a range of entertainment year-round. Its programme comprises comedy, music, cabaret, club nights, children’s shows and much more, drawing in local and international acts. Komedia has won awards for providing some of the best performances around, and has established its place in the city’s cultural scene.
Despite its wide-reaching bill, Komedia holds comedy at its core, with many events such as Bent Double and Comic Boom dishing out laughs on a regular basis. Many acts use Komedia as a warm up venue for the Edinburgh Fringe, meaning you can catch some of comedy’s top acts in action without the large crowds. In the past, comedy kings such as Graham Norton, Johnny Vegas and Al Murray have all performed there. It also spurred the careers of Michael McIntyre, Mickey Flanagan, Russell Howard and many others.
The club secured the Chortle Comedy Award for ‘Best Venue in the South’ a stellar 15 times, where Komedia has won more Chortle awards than any other venue! Its Bent Double also won ‘Best Comedy Club’ for three consecutive years and The Krater Comedy Club inspired The Guardian to list Komedia in its Top 10 comedy venues in the UK.
Beyond comedy, Komedia has won titles as a wholesome and diverse place for entertainment. It was in the run up for the 2017 Sussex Life Awards for ‘Best Entertainment Venue’, and won the 2018 Hoop Award for ‘Best Family Entertainment’.
The venue has two leading spaces to cater to its broad range of performances; one dominated by comedy and fitting up to 400 spectators, and the other slightly smaller area that often hosts children’s theatre, cabaret and literature shows. Visitors can enjoy the range of food available at Komedia, making it an enjoyable experience for all.
