Following its sold-out run at the National Theatre, the NT and Neal Street Productions’ critically acclaimed production of The Lehman Trilogy has now transferred to the West End, telling the story of a family that changed the world in three parts. Tickets for The Lehman Trilogy are available now.
Directed by the Oscar-winning film and stage director Sam Mendes and starring Simon Russell Beale, Adam Godley and Ben Miles, Ben Power’s English language translation of Stefano Massini’s production follows the Lehman brothers, their sons and grandsons throughout the course of history.
Tracing the path of the Lehman family from the foundation of the Lehman Brothers company in 1844 to the catastrophic collapse of the firm 163 years later, sparking the global financial crash, this epic and poetic production explores the power of ambition and the influence of a business spanning several generations.
The Lehman Trilogy was originally conceived by Massini as a radio play, first airing on Italian radio in November 2012. It premiered on stage at the Comédie de Saint-Étienne in France and was soon translated into 11 languages, seeing stagings across Europe.
Power and Mendes’ adaptation of the play was first staged in the UK at the Royal National Theatre’s Lyttelton Theatre in 2018. It has since enjoyed a limited run at the Park Avenue Armory in New York City before it arrived back in London at the Piccadilly Theatre in summer 2019.
Praised for the poetic language of Power’s translation, Mendes’ elegant direction, the three actors’ versatile acting and its memorable stage design, The Lehman Trilogy has received five star reviews from newspapers across the UK including the Guardian and the Times.
