Born in London as Saul Hudson, the guitarist and songwriter is better known as the LA rock legend ‘Slash’. He was ascribed his nickname by actor Seymour Cassel for always being in a hurry and darting around, and so later took it to be his stage name. ‘Slash’ is now synonymous with some of the best guitar riffs of all time, having found fame as the original lead guitarist of American rock band Guns n’ Roses. Hudson was raised in his early years in Stoke-on-Trent, but later moved to the US at the young age of five due to his mother’s work. He was inspired by Aerosmith’s 1976 album ‘Rocks’, where at the age of 14, he knew he had found his passion for rock music. After joining a number of bands, he later became part of the newly-founded Guns N’ Roses with Axl Rose, Izzy Stradlin, Duff McKagan and Steven Adler. Guns N’ Roses shot to fame with tracks such as ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’, ‘Paradise City’, ‘November Rain’ and many other soundtracks to 80’s and 90’s. Following the suspension of the band, Slash embarked on his own solo career. He completed four solo albums, the latest ‘Living the Dream’ released September 2018, three of which feature Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators. He has worked with renowned artists such as Carole King and the late Michael Jackson (‘Dirty Diana’), and has his own record label. He also reunited with bandmates to create new group Velvet Revolver as well as forming a Guns N’ Roses reunion in 2016. Having spent decades contributing to the world of rock music, Slash has achieved many awards and titles while ranking highly in a variety of lists. The Rolling Stone dubbed him as the 65th best guitarist in the world, and his riff for ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ made Total Guitar’s number one of The 100 Greatest Riffs in 2004. The legend’s image is unmistakable, with long, dark wavy hair, black hat and sunglasses, adding to to his elevated status as one of rock’s all time greats.
