Rosmersholm

Biography

Ian Rickson directs Tom Burke, Hayley Atwell and Giles Terera in the West End premiere of Duncan Macmillan‘s startling new adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s gripping and piercingly relevant work of personal and political passion Rosmersholm. Rosmersholm tickets are available now via TickX. Written in 1886, Rosmersholm is widely considered to be one of Ibsen’s very best plays. The play focuses on Johannes Rosmer and his housekeeper Rebecca West, who are both haunted by the spirit of Rosmer’s mentally ill wife who died by suicide one year prior. Duncan Macmillan’s haunting modern rewrite of the play follows John Rosmer as an election is looming, with Rosmer facing the choice between sticking to his conservative traditions or finding a new freedom. Rosmersholm is written by Macmillan, best known for his stage adaptation of George Orwell’s novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, and directed by Ian Ricksen, the former artistic director of London’s Royal Court Theatre. Ricksen's most famous production to date was Hamlet at the Young Vic starring Michael Sheen. The cast of Rosmersholm are all seasoned actors of stage and screen. Burke, who will star as Rosmer, is best known for his lead roles in the BBC period action drama The Musketeers and the crime drama Strike, as well as the 2016 TV adaptation of War and Peace. Atwell, who will play Rosmer's free-spirited housekeeper Rebecca West, has made her name by starring as Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while Terera is the previous winner of an Olivier Award for playing Aaron Burr in the original West End cast of Hamilton. Tense and gripping, don’t miss this modern remake of Ibsen’s classic pla which is sure to leave audiences with food for thought. The Duke of York’s Theatre is hosting the production for a limited time only between 24th April and 19th July 2019 so make sure to grab your Rosmersholm tickets now.
