Good Friday is where the Easter weekend begins, and there’s nowhere better in the North of England than Manchester to celebrate it with gigs, club nights, shows and more. Manchester’s music scene is famous across the world and is sure to deliver some early Easter eggs. One of the world’s biggest pop acts may well be showing up at the enormous 21,000-capacity Manchester Arena, while indie venues like YES, the Deaf Institute and Soup Kitchen are where you can discover your new favourite up-and-coming artist or dance the night away.
If you’d prefer a more solemn or thought-provoking occasion given the nature of the day, you can’t go wrong with Manchester’s theatres and cinemas. The Royal Exchange and Opera House are two theatres that will guarantee hard-hitting drama, or you could check out Hollywood’s latest efforts at the VUE Printworks or Great Northern Odeon. If you’re really lucky, there may be a football match on Good Friday in which you can catch Manchester’s two globally renowned football teams Manchester United and Manchester City in action. If not, other sporting events such as basketball and ice hockey can keep you occupied.
