See Heathers the Musical at the Palace Theatre Manchester

The dark comedy resurfaces once again to bring us high school hierarchy, cruel cliques and teenage vengeance. Following runs in the US, Australia and London, Heathers The Musical is now making its way around the UK again - including a stop at Manchester.

Based on the 1988 comedy starring Winona Ryder and Christian Slater, Heathers the Musical brings Daniel Waters’ film to stage. Longing to be one of the cool kids, Veronica uses her talents to get the popular Heathers girls out of detention. They take her under her wing, showing her the ropes on how to rule the school - with a cruel streak. Meanwhile, Veronica meets the mysterious new kid, JD. When a party goes awry and one of the Heathers leader is killed accidentally, Veronica and JD take it upon themselves to cover it up and take charge.

Besides bringing a whole lot of musical fun with songs such as ‘Freeze Your Brain’ and ‘Dead Girl Walking’, the play draws attention to serious issues such as bullying, teen suicide and sexual assault.

The original West End production scooped two WhatsOnStage Awards, including ‘Best New Musical’, as well as plenty of nominations. Kevin Murphy (Desperate Housewives) and Laurence O’Keefe (Legally Blonde) worked with the original film’s screenwriter to transform the cult classic to a rock musical. Don’t miss your chance to catch Heathers The Musical as it lands in Manchester's Palace Theatre.

Venue Details

The Palace Theatre is one of Manchester’s major theatres and one of the most successful in England. It opened on central Oxford Street in 1891, surviving the Manchester Blitz and several renovations. Over the years, the Palace Theatre and its sister venue - the Manchester Opera House - have welcomed a plethora of top touring musicals and high-profile acts in Manchester.

In the early 20th century, Hollywood greats have made appearances on the Palace stage, such as the ‘The Wizard of Oz’s’ Judy Garland, and classic comedy duo, Laurel and Hardy, while contemporary acts include X Factor star Alexandra Burke and local comic legend, Peter Kay. Some of the most well known touring repertoires have further illustrated its prominent venue status, including the likes of Mamma Mia!, Disney’s The Lion King, Miss Saigon, The Book of Mormon and Dirty Dancing.

The Palace Theatre’s seating plan is made up of Stalls, the Circle and the Grand Tier on top, with the majority of seats offering fantastic views of the stage. It has a capacity of up to 1955 theatre patrons. Visitors can also enjoy a drink during the interval at the Ambassador Lounge.

The full address of the Palace Theatre is 97 Oxford Street, Manchester, M1 6FT. If you’re travelling by car, you can get discounted parking at Oxford Street and Manchester Palace car parks if you bring your ticket to the theatre cloakroom. Alternatively, you can arrive by train to either Oxford Road Station directly opposite, or Manchester Piccadilly Station around a 10 minute walk away. Once the busiest bus route in Europe, Oxford Road is also served by many buses,

Otherwise known as the Grand Lady of Oxford Street, the Palace Theatre was created by designer Alfred Darbyshire. Despite being bombed during the Second World War, theatre-goers can still see some of the original architectural elements in the facade and windows. Its historical significance and structural grandeur make it one of the city's most iconic landmarks of The Arts.
