About Hairspray

Good morning Baltimore! The smash hit musical Hairspray won four Olivier Awards during its original run on the West End. Now you can find it all over the UK. Find out more about Hairspray tickets right here at TickX.

In 1962 Baltimore, the overweight teenager Tracy Turnblad dreams of dancing on local TV dance show The Corny Collins Show. Tracy soon wins a place on the show but finds that the show is marred by underlying racism. Dismayed, Tracy uses her new platform to push for social change…

Hairspray first appeared on Broadway in 2002, based on John Waters' 1988 film of the same name. It launched at the Neil Simon Theatre in August 2002 and quickly took Broadway by storm. The original production won eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Original Score and Best Book. Tickets for Hairspray flew as the musical ran for 2,642 performances before closing, making it one of the longest-running Broadway musicals.

Hairspray hit the West End in 2007, opening at the Shaftesbury Theatre. The West End production won four Olivier Awards from the record-breaking 11 it received nominations for. These included Best New Musical, Best Actor for Michael Ball as Edna Turnblad and Best Actress for Leanne Jones as Tracy. The production ran for over 1,000 performances to gleaming reviews before it finally closed in 2010. Just as in New York, Hairspray tickets were always in demand.

Hairspray now enjoys performances across the UK. It's even back in 2020 for a limited 12-week run at the London Coliseum. Ball will return in his Olivier Award-winning role as Edna, while original director Jack O'Brien and choreographer Jerry Mitchell are also back. Don't miss out on this modern classic which is sure to take over the West End once again.

Hairspray is at the London Coliseum on the West End from 23 April to 19 July 2020. Run and tell that to your family and friends! You can find the best tickets for Hairspray right here at TickX.
