Everton F.C. is one of English football’s most famous names. Cross-city rivals to Liverpool F.C., Everton are one of six clubs to have taken part in every Premier League season. Nine time English league champions and five time FA Cup winners, Everton – nicknamed the Toffees or the Blues – play at Goodison Park in Walton, Liverpool. Everton F.C. was formed in 1878, with the club being founding members of the Football League in 1888. The Toffees were extremely successful in the early history of English football, claiming their first league title in 1890 and following it up with four league titles and two FA Cup victories in the years preceding World War II. The club also won two league titles and an FA Cup in the 1960s. Everton’s most recent period of success took place during the mid-1980s as the Toffees won two League Championships, one FA Cup and the European Cup Winners’ Cup in 1985. The club’s most recent trophy came in 1995 as Everton defeated a then-dominant Manchester United 1-0 in the FA Cup Final. Everton’s importance to English football can be shown that the club has competed in the top division in more seasons than any other club. It’s no surprise, then, that Everton is one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League, regularly qualifying for European competition. While it has been overtaken by the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea over the past few decades, Everton remains one of the true historical staples of English football.
