About

BC Camplight is the stage moniker of Italian-American singer-songwriter Brian Christinzio. The New Jersey-born singer-songwriter, whose music giddily lurches between rock and roll, new wave and psych pop, has resurrected his career since moving to Manchester, England in 2012. BC Camplight’s most recent record is Deportation Blues, which was released on Bella Union in August 2018. Christinzio first emerged as part of Philadephia’s live music scene, regularly performing live with members of The War On Drugs. His first two albums, 2005’s Hide, Run Away and 2007’s Blink of a Nihilist, were released on the record label One Little Indian. Sadly, the records did not perform well commercially and Christinzio was dropped by the label. Christinzio stopped writing and performing for several years as he struggled with depression and drug and alcohol addiction. However, Christinzio eventually found redemption after he relocated to Manchester, England in 2012 on the advice of a fan who offered him shelter. Christinzio rebuilt his life in the rainy city as he found a new live band and signed to Bella Union, releasing his long-awaited third full-length album How to Die In The North in 2015. Despite finding a greater audience than ever before, Christinzio’s troubles were not over as he was deported from the UK in 2015 for overstaying his visa and banned from re-entering the country for a year. Now back in Manchester thanks to a newly acquired Italian passport and reunited with his live band, Christinzio recently released his fourth album Deportation Blues, which is influenced by his first-hand encounters with the UK’s hostile environment policy and the impact of his resulting year in exile. Impressively supported by his ragtag band of Mancs, BC Camplight’s live show is an dizzying and exhilarating experience. Let’s hope that this time BC Camplight is here to stay.
