Biography

Durham County Cricket Club's story began in 1882, when they played their first match at the Chester Road cricket ground, Sunderland and defeated Northumberland by Wickets. They went on to become a prominent member of the Minor Counties Championship, winning 7 times until 1992, where the club joined the County Championships and achieved senior status as an official first-class team. Throughout that time, Durham CCC has had somewhat of a nomadic status moving from ground to ground, but things turned around in the early 1990's where planning approval was granted for their very own ground. By 1995, the Riverside was established and Durham had a place they could call home.
