Follow Belfast Giants for the latest news, updates and upcoming tour dates
Any ice hockey fans in Northern Ireland will know all about the Belfast Giants. The Belfast Giants are Belfast’s main ice hockey team playing in the Elite Ice Hockey League (EIHL), the UK’s highest level ice hockey competition. The Giants play their home games at the 8,000-capacity SSE Hydro Belfast.
The Giants formed in 2000 and made an excellent start to life in the now defunct Superleague, winning the championship in 2001-12 and the play-offs in 2002-03. The club faced temporary financial problems as the league faced its demise but survived with the creation of the EIHL ahead of the 2003-04 season.
Since then the Giants have continued to be regular trophy challengers, winning three more regular season titles, one play-off championship, one Knockout Cup and two Challenge Cups, most recently in 2017-18. With regular attendances of over 4,500, they are one of the best supported clubs in the EIHL, thanks in part to their ability to attract former NHL players such as Theoren Fleury and Kevin Westgarth.
The Giants proudly avoid sectarianism to represent Belfast as a whole and this has given the team a large and passionate fanbase. With star players and a fantastic atmosphere on match-days, a Belfast Giants game is a must-visit for ice hockey fans in Northern Ireland.
