Spice Girls add Cardiff date to 2019 reunion tour

Spice Girls fans in Wales can rejoice as the pop megastars have announced an additional date in Cardiff on their Spice World – 2019 UK Tour thanks to overwhelming demand.

Mel B, Geri, Mel C and Emma will now be starting their 2019 tour at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Monday 27 May 2019.

As with their other tour dates, the quartet’s supporting act will be the English singer and songwriter Jess Glynne.

The nearest the Spice Girls would have performed to Wales prior to the announcement would have been in Bristol at Ashton Gate Stadium.

Tickets for the Spice Girls’ additional tour date in Cardiff will go on sale this Friday 16 November at 9.30am GMT. You can find and compare ticket prices for the tour below to get the cheapest deal.

Last week the Spice Girls stunned the UK by announcing their return to play six dates in the UK in May and June 2019, their first shows since the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

The six original dates – in Manchester, Coventry, Sunderland, Edinburgh, Bristol and London – sold out in minutes, leading additional dates to be announced in Manchester and London.

Last week, further dates were announced at Coventry’s Ricoh Stadium, and now Cardiff has been added to the list of places that can ‘Say They’ll Be There’.

The girl group will be touring without Victoria Beckham – a.k.a. Posh Spice – who had to decline to join the tour due to business commitments.

“Being in the Spice Girls was a hugely important part of my life and I wish my girls so much love and fun as they go back on tour,” Beckham said.

“I know they will put on an amazing show and the fantastic fans past and present are going to have a wonderful time!”

The Spice Girls became one of the defining acts of the 1990s after emerging in 1996, proving their girl power by becoming the best-selling female group of all time.

The five-piece dominated the 90s with hits such as ‘Wannabe’, ‘Stop’, and ‘Spice Up Your Life’, releasing three albums and starring in the film Spice World.

The Spice Girls went on indefinite hiatus in 2000 to focus on solo projects, but briefly reunited in 2007 to tour their Greatest Hits record featuring new single ‘Headlines (Friendship Never Ends)’.
