Next year MGC Artistic Director Michael Grandage will be directing his first ever UK revival of Red since it debuted at the Donmar Warehouse Theatre in 2009, a production that went on to win six Tony Awards.
Himself and acclaimed stage actor Alfred Molina breathed life into playwright John Logan's spine-tingling tale; an American abstract artist attempts to create a masterpiece work, accompanied by his contrary assistant Ken who butts heads with the artist at every turn.
The role of Ken was first played by the award winning actor Eddie Redmayne of 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' and 'The Theory of Everything', as well as 'Glee' and 'Mindhunter's Jonathan Groff in a Los Angeles production of the play, but now for the 2018 revival of Red the role is being taken over by Alfred Enoch.
Born in London, 1988, Enoch is the son of British actor William Russell, known for being the first male companion on 'Doctor Who' in the 1960's. He grew up in London and attended the University of Oxford, graduating with a degree in Portuguese and Spanish.
If his name rings a bell that may be because you have already seen some of Enoch's work in the past, as he portrayed the character of Dean Thomas in the 'Harry Potter' series for seven of the eight films, and has starred in 3 seasons of the leading American crime drama 'How to Get Away With Murder'.
As well as his appearances on the big screen, Enoch is quite the regular on stage, having acted in a number of plays in London from 'Coriolanus' and 'Timon of Athens' to his more recent role of Edgar and Poor Tom in the Talaway Theatre Company and Manchester Royal Exchange co-production of 'King Lear' where he won much praise for his characterisation and physicality in the roles.
Now Enoch will be starring alongside the highly acclaimed actor Alfred Molina in the 2018 revival of Red as the artist's antithetical assistant, Ken. This role should see Enoch blossom in a leading position as well as flex his well-practiced American accent. The play will run at London's Wyndham's Theatre from May 4th, with tickets on sale now.
