Sheffield Gig Guide: These are the best Live Music Venues of Sheffield

Sheffield has seen the birth of many great British artists, from Def Leppard to Arctic Monkeys, The Long Blondes and Babybird. Which venues have in this city overflowing with creativity have stood the test of time?

The Harley

The Harley is a small home-grown venue in the heart of Sheffield city centre, known for being at the forefront of some of the best up and coming musicians, having hosted shows from British indie rock icons Arctic Monkeys, to pop band The XX.

The venue has a 200 capacity to bring you closer to your favourite acts, as well as a delicious menu and attached hotel to accommodate for your every need on your big night out.

Hagglers Corner

Haggler’s Corner - “From Neglected to Connected”.

It began from the bottom up when couple Sarah and Dave decided to renovate a rundown old building. After tireless work, Hagglers Corner was eventually built up to as we know it today, becoming a cornerstone of the Sheffield entertainment scene.

That personal touch that Sarah and Dave bring makes the Hagglers Corner feel like home, through great local beer, cocktails and music. Settle inside to listen to some of their live acts playing, or perhaps venture out into their courtyard and soak up some nice weather.

Either way, you’re in for a pleasant evening.

Locally known as Corp, Corporation is known to cater for alternative music fans, being one of Kerrang!’s top three club nights in the UK for their DROP nights every Friday.

Live gigs are regularly hosted here in their 180, 300 and 900 capacity rooms, thundering out of their superb setup and ensuring headbangers everywhere that they are in for the night of their lives.

It's situated in the heart of Sheffield and a staple in any true alternative music fans night out, as they are guaranteed to have something tailored to suit your tastes.

The Leadmill

Sheffield’s longest running live music venue and nightclub continues to be a contender for best venue since it opened in 1980, after – despite the name – formerly being a flour mill.

Today the venue continues to host popular bands the likes of Coldplay, The Killers, and Enter Shikari. In 2005, Sheffield locals, Arctic Monkeys, would sell out The Leadmill faster than anyone else, before they even released their breakthrough record, Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not.

For many, playing The Leadmill’s 300 or 900 capacity rooms is somewhat of a “rite of passage” as a musician.

Since 2005 when Plug opened they have had the opportunity to welcome through their doors some of the country’s most gifted musicians, including Lily Allen, The Prodigy, and of course Sheffield superstars, the Arctic Monkeys.

Located in the centre of the city, Plug comes alive with the nightlife, forming an integral part of a memorable night out on the town.

Their three different rooms, Live, Neutral and Earth show how versatile they are as a venue, with their 1200 capacity giving them the space to host larger shows as well as smaller ones.
