From sunshine in Spain to the limelight of the West End, the face of ITV’s notorious dating show will now take on the role of Roxie Hart in the production of Chicago at the Phoenix Theatre. From the 10th December, Caroline Flack will join the talented cast behind the celebration of crime and corruption in the Jazz Age, including YouTube star Todrick Hall as Billy Flynn, Josefina Gabrielle as Vilma Kelly, Mazz Murray as Mama Morton and Paul Rider as Amos Hart.
Flack confessed that playing Roxie Hart has always been something she wanted to do, “I’ve been imagining playing Roxie since I was a teenager. To have now landed the role in the West End is a dream come true. I hope I do everyone proud and don’t fall of the ladder.”
Despite being her West End debut, Chicago won’t be the first musical for the Love Island and former Xtra Factor presenter. After winning Strictly Come Dancing in 2014, Flack introduced us to her acting talent in Paul Hart’s production of Crazy For You in 2017, where she played opposite her Strictly partner, Tom Chambers. But now Flack will be among the many famous names who have featured in Chicago since it opened in London in 1997, including Alexandra Burke, Duncan James and Cuba Gooding Jr, Denise Van Outen, Marti Pellow, David Hasselhoff, Brooke Shields, Ashlee Simpson and Kelly Osbourne. Cheryl Cole was rumoured to have been offered the part, but turned it down due to other obligations.
Chicago is one of the stage’s most popular shows, with iconic musical numbers such as ‘All the Jazz’, ‘Funny Honey’, ‘Cell Block Tango’ and coining the term ‘Razzle Dazzle’. It follows villainesses Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, who after being incarcerated for their crimes, compete for the limelight and the affection of their lawyer, Billy Flynn. The show was further celebrated with the 2002 movie starring Catherine Zeta Jones, Renee Zellweger, and Richard Gere with music from Danny Elfman and John Kander.
Flack will play Hart from 10th December until it closes on 5th January 2019. Take a look at available dates and tickets for Chicago below:
