Little Mix strip down for female empowerment

Little Mix have unveiled a new and powerful image to promote body positivity and combat the bullies who have thrown insults at them since they debuted.

The girls - Jesy Nelson, Perrie Edwards, Jade Thirwall and Leigh-Anne Pinnock - are posed nude with slurs and taunts such as "fat", "slutty", "talentless" and "common" all over their bodies, sharing the image to Instagram with the lyrics from their track Strip and the caption "Thank you for being part of this incredible journey with us. #LM5 featuring #Strip is coming Friday 16.11.18. The girls x."

The lyrics spread a message of positive self image and self love, including lines like "Take off all my makeup cos I love what's under it" and "Finally love me naked, sexiest when I'm confident"

In another post to Instagram, the girls teased a new video coming for Strip that keeps up the celebration of self with dozens women with different body types and skin colour celebrating themselves and each other.

"We have loved sharing all these incredible, inspirational women and their stories with you. And we have a little surprise."

"A few months ago, we invited all the women to be a part of our brand new music video for #Strip. Strip is a really special song from LM5, it’s all about standing proud and we wrote it to encourage and empower people to be who they are. We were lucky enough to have the amazing @rankinarchive bring our vision to life in partnership with @youtubemusic!"

"We co-directed this video and are so incredibly proud of it, Strip will be all yours on Friday. 16.11.18. #LM5. The girls x"

"We're talking about stuff we've wanted to speak about for ages," says Jesy . "We've all suffered from body confidence and negative comments, and up until now we didn't really have a song we felt addressed everything we needed to."

"We just want women to feel equal and incredible," Perrie says.

The women who appear in the video include influencers, activists and friends and family of the girls like Dina Tokio, Muslim author and blogger who the band describe as a "superwoman", as well as sex and relationships YouTuber Hannah Witton and the Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) campaigner Nimco Ali.

Fans have joined the movement as well, using the hashtag #StripForLittleMix to share their own stories of empowerment and self love.
