The full cast of the West End production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time has been announced ahead of its opening night at the Piccadilly Theatre later this month.
Joshua Jenkins has been confirmed to return as the play's lead character Christopher Boone after he played Christopher on the National Theatre production's previous UK-wide and international tours. Sam Newton will also come back to play Christopher at some performances.
Alongside Jenkins and Newton will be Julie Hale as Christopher's teacher Siobhan, Stuart Laing as Christopher's father Ed Boone, and Emma Beattie as his mother Judy.
Supporting cast members include Sean McKenzie (Reverend Peters), Eliza Collings (Mrs Shears), Lucas Hare (Mr Shears), Gemma Knight Jones (Punk Girl), Lynette Clark (Mrs Alexander), and Craig Stein (Mr Thompson). The understudies for this production will be Kieran Garland, Emma-Jane Goodwin, Rose Riley and Joe Rising.
The National Theatre production of Simon Stevens' play is set to run at the Piccadilly Theatre from 29 November 2018 to 23 February 2019, having last shown in the UK at the Gielgud Theatre in June 2017.
Curious Incident… tells the story of 15-year-old Christopher, a “mathematician with some behavioural difficulties” who discovers the body of his neighbour’s dog, leading him to investigate the mystery of the murder.
The play is based on Mark Haddon’s 2003 novel of the same name and opened at the National Theatre’s Cottesloe Theatre (now Dorfman Theatre) in 2012 before transferring to the West End, winning what was then a record seven Olivier Awards during its premiere run.
The play, directed by Marianne Elliott, remained on the West End at the Apollo Theatre and then the Gielgud until June last year, finally closing after playing over 1,600 performances.
Curious Incident… has also been a massive success internationally as it transferred to New York in 2014, becoming the longest-running play on Broadway in over a decade and winning five Tony Awards including Best Play.
