On Thursday November 1st, Twenty One Pilots frontman Tyler Joseph opened on BBC Live Lounge month in style with a stunning, stripped back version of My Blood on piano, along with Blurryface staple Ride and a cover of Damien Rice's 9 Crimes.
Joseph shared stories of the band's beginnings and their relationship with their fans in a short interview at the Newport Music Hall in Columbis, Ohio, a venue special to the band not only because it's in their hometown but because it's where he met fellow bandmate and best friend Josh Dun for the first time.
"This room is very important to Josh and [me], we cut our teeth here in music. I actually met Josh here too." He continued, "Right in that hallway over there, under that exit sign. I was playing and he was in a different band at the time, and he came to the show. After the show he came up to me like 'Hey I really enjoyed the show', and I knew who he was because he kinda had some local clout before I even did."
"So I knew he was, awesome guy, local drummer who I kept up with, so meeting him was kind of cool. It was right here, right in that hallway."
He went on to explain how much the city of Columbus means to him and that he's "probably not going to ever leave", as well his sense of pride in their fanbase, the clique "I'll pit our fans against any other group of people."
