The NFL will return to London in 2019 with the UK capital set to host four games of the league’s regular season next year.
The four NFL London Games will be split across two venues, with Wembley Stadium and the as-yet unfinished Tottenham Hotspur Stadium set to host two games each.
The move comes after the huge success of the 2018 NFL London Games which saw fans come out in record numbers to watch American football in the capital.
This year saw the league play three games on three consecutive weekends at Wembley Stadium, including a record attendance last Sunday as 85,870 fans came out to watch the Philadelphia Eagles defeat the Jacksonville Jaguars 24-18.
London mayor Sadiq Khan said of the announcement: “London is the world’s sporting capital and hosting NFL matches here is fantastic for fans of American football in the UK as well as supporters from all over Europe.
“The NFL brings huge benefits for our city and showcases London to millions of viewers overseas. We’ve staged some mouth-watering matches here and hope to host even more in the years to come as we demonstrate that London Is Open.”
London has hosted 24 NFL games as part of the league’s regular season since 2007 as part of the NFL International Series.
Over the years the NFL London Games have seen 29 of the league’s 32 teams make the trip over the pond to entertain fans.
Along with the Eagles and the Jaguars, this year saw the Los Angeles Chargers, Tennessee Titans, Seattle Seahawks and the Oakland Raiders duke it out in front of UK American football lovers.
The NFL International Series also currently includes a regular season game in Mexico City every year - the NFL Mexico Game - and may soon expand to include Germany and Canada.
