Giorgio Moroder announces his first ever live tour

Fans of dance music rejoice! 'The Father of Disco' Giorgio Moroder has announced that he will be embarking upon his first ever live tour next year - at the ripe old age of 78.

The tour - titled A Celebration of the 80s - will see the Italian songwriter, producer and DJ performing all his classic dance hits alongside a live band and stunning special effects, including an on-screen appearance of his late collaborator Donna Summer.

The 15-date tour will see Moroder perform across Europe in 2019 with the Italian visiting the UK and Ireland between Monday 1 and Monday 8 April.

“It is something I have always wanted to do. Fans kept reaching out to me, asking if I would ever do a real tour," Moroder said in a press release.

"Back in the days it was unthinkable for producers to ever leave their studios. That territory was reserved for the singers. Today, DJs and music producers have become the superstars of popular dance music, so the time feels right.”

Moroder has been a huge influence on the music industry since his emergence in the 1960s, being one of the first people to put dance music to a repetitive percussive beat.

Moroder gained his fame for his multiple collaborations with Summer in the 1970s and has since collaborated with some of the world's biggest stars including David Bowie, Cher, Britney Spears, Kylie Minogue, The Human League and more.

Moroder won three Oscars for his music for the films Midnight ExpressFlashdance and Top Gun, and was also responsible for soundtracks to films such as Scarface and Electric Dreams.

He has also won four Grammy Awards, winning his most recent Grammy for his contribution to Daft Punk's smash hit 2013 album Random Access Memories.
