2018 Love Island star Idris Virgo confirmed for Ultimate Boxxer II

From the villa to the ring, Idris Virgo will participate in the fighting tournament in London.

2018 Love Island star Idris Virgo confirmed for Ultimate Boxxer II

Journey back to June and July and you’ll see a group of tanned, lustful singletons competing in couple's challenges and gossiping by the pool as ITV's 'Love Island' bombarded TV screens for eight weeks. Among them was 25-year-old Idris Virgo from Birmingham.

While he tried to charm the likes of Alexandra and Laura, causing controversy after telling Laura her current partner tried to kiss another contestant, viewers were arguably more attentive to his ultra athletic physique. Idris’ muscular body is a result of his professional boxing career, which has seen him participate victoriously in two bouts prior to appearing on the reality show; only ten days before entering the villa, super-middleweight Virgo beat Scott Hillman 40-36. With the summer of love well and truly out of his system, he makes a strong return to boxing this Autumn.

Ultimate Boxxer first premiered in Manchester at the end of April, where Northampton’s Drew Brown beat out seven other welterweight contestants in the bid to win £50,000, sponsorship deals, qualifications and contracts. The show, hosted by BBC Radio 1 Xtra’s Charlie Sloth, made for an explosive debut and left spectators eager for more.

The show’s Executive Director and former Two-Weight World Champion, Paulie Malignaggi proclaimed “The first show blew my mind and the card looks even better for this one.”

For its second installment, the fighting shifts to light heavyweights. On 2nd November, Virgo will compete against seven-time national champion at amateur level, John McCallum, wildcard Sam Horsfall, unbeaten 6ft 6 Shakan Pitters, former English Light-Heavyweight Champion, Joel Mcintyre, alongside Jordan Joseph, Dec Spelman and Darrel Church. Virgo is currently undefeated, and with Heavyweight World Champion Anthony Joshua as his idol, he certainly has his sights set high.

Reflecting on the lineup for the London show, Founder of Ultimate Boxxer Benjamin Shalom said:

“‘The first show has attracted more and more quality fighters which made our decision for places very difficult. We think we’ve chosen a card perfect for the London crowd. It has everything and it’s impossible to call who will come out on top.”

Renowned boxing legends Ricky Hatton and Anthony Crolla will join Malignaggi as part of the star studded team of pundits and ambassadors, alongside presenters Rickie Williams (KISS FM) and Michelle Phelps (Behind The Gloves). The biggest UK DJ, Charlie Sloth will also make a return - providing audiences with musical entertainment throughout.

Tickets to see Idris Virgo take on the other light heavyweights at London’s Indigo at the O2 are now on sale. Find tickets below or alternatively follow Ultimate Boxxer to receive alerts.
