Can you believe it’s been thirty years since the formation of Take That? In 1989, Nigel Martin-Smith went on a hunt to find a new boy band that would appeal to the teenage demographic of Britain. He might not have guessed it then, but this boy band would later become one of the best-selling artists and the most successful boy band in UK chart history. Take That are now back on tour to tribute their legacy and ‘Relight Our Fire’ with a string of shows announced for the 2019 Greatest Hits Tour.
The show comprises three members from the original lineup - Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen. The trio will be celebrating their new album ‘Odyssey’; a 2 CD, 27-track compilation of their greatest hits - some of which have been recreated with new arrangements and productions.
“Some have been reworked, but without spoiling what people loved about them in the first place. You’ve got to be respectful, but at the same time, you’ve got to let the ambition of doing something new and refreshed come through as well.” explains Barlow.
Owen also declares that “if you only ever own one of them, this should be the definitive Take That record”.
After the release of the reimagined ‘Pray’, the band’s first number one single that stayed atop of the UK charts for four weeks, it is expected that ‘Odyssey’ will also feature many of their other smash hits such as ‘Babe’, ‘Everything Changes’, ‘Never Forget’ and ‘Back for Good’. In total, Take That have produced 12 chart-topping singles and seven number albums in the UK, with further success internationally.

Despite changes to their lineup over the years, including the departure and temporary return of Robbie Williams and Jason Orange’s more recent withdrawal, the band have preserved their success and continued to create number one singles. They set the bar for other artists in breaking the record for the fastest-selling tour in the UK, first with the 2008 Circus Tour, and again with their 2011 Progress Live Tour. Following the announcement of their upcoming shows for 2019, box offices are wondering if the boys can do it again.
The Greatest Hits 2019 tour will commence in Sheffield on the 15th April. Barlow, Owen and Donald will then travel across the UK, including six shows at London’s O2 and five in their hometown at the Manchester Arena. The tour will also star special guest, Rick Astley.
