An American fable that never fails to sweep audiences off their feet, the London production of 42nd Street is a vivacious, technicolour masterpiece that features a cast of more than 50 performing all-new songs and dancers as well as favourites such as ‘We're In The Money', ‘Lullaby Of Broadway', ‘Shuffle Off To Buffalo', ‘Dames', ‘I Only Have Eyes For You' and ‘42nd Street'.
Based on the novel by Bradford Ropes, the Grammy Award winning Sheena Easton portrays Dorothy Brock in “Broadway’s Biggest Show on London’s Biggest Stage”, 42nd Street. Cast alongside Easton is Tom Lister (Emmerdale) as Julian Marsh and Clare Halse (Singin’ In The Rain) as Peggy Sawyer, transporting us back to the 1930s as we follow the story of a young Sawyer, fresh off the bus.
Sawyer has just arrived to the big city, narrowly missing auditions for the hottest new show to hit 1933, Pretty Lady, whilst one-hit wonder Dorothy Brock is kicking up a fuss about even being asked to audition. Sawyer's raw talent and dancing skill finds her a spot on the chorus line, but things go awry, with romance and lies taking centre stage instead.
This tale of deceit, love affairs and prima donnas features over 50 thrilling new songs and dancers, as well as favourites ‘We're In The Money', ‘Lullaby Of Broadway', and of course, ‘42nd Street'. It’s hailed at the mother of all showbiz musicals, it’s original productions having won the Theatre World Award and Laurence Olivier Award for Best New Musical in the past, this newer rendition is sure to reignite the passion and fire of 42nd Street, bringing to the 21st century.
