Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London

For almost 400 years the Theatre Royal Drury Lane has entertained, delighted and brought theatre to the citizens of London.

In it's earliest days the reigning monarch and other of London's notables would attend the theatre, including Samuel Pepys, with the theatre having two royal boxes and being the first public place that both the National Anthem and Rule Britannia were heard.

Throughout its history, the theatre earned itself a reputation for beautiful Victorian melodramas, but the in the 20th century it - like many others - began to follow the development of the modern musical. From early productions like 'Rose Marie' to Ivor Novello's romantic pieces to groundbreaking shows like The Lord of the Rings and My Fair Lady, the Theatre Royal has been at the forefront of up and coming productions.
